ACWF Launches Campaign to Salute Women Role Models in Anti-COVID-19 Battle
March 10, 2020Since the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, a large number of women have made great contributions on the front line of epidemic prevention and control work.
To commend the women role models and keep morale, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the National Health Commission, and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission issued a notice on March 7 that a campaign will be launched to award 500 women medical workers on the front line with the title of National March 8th Red-banner Holder, an honor for exemplary workers who have made outstanding achievements on their posts.
The ACWF will also award the title of the National March 8th Red-banner Holder to 300 women who have made outstanding contributions to the COVID-19 prevention and control work, material assistance, and research and production of medicine and protective equipment as well as voluntary services.
A list of the first 20 women role model medical workers on the front line of the battle against the epidemic was released on March 7.
The ACWF and Tencent Foundation also launched a solicitude action with a fund of about 30 million yuan (US $4 million) to better care for the women role models who have made outstanding contributions on the front line of the anti-virus fight. Families of the women role models and recipients of the honorary title of the National March 8th Red-banner Holder who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the epidemic will receive 500,000 yuan (US $71,891) each.
The first 20 women role model medical workers and the recipients of the title of the National March 8th Red-banner Holder on the front line of the anti-virus battle will receive 50,000 yuan (US $7,189) and 20,000 yuan (US $2,876), respectively.
On January 24, the Tencent Foundation announced a donation of 300 million yuan (US $43 million) to set up a fund for COVID-19 prevention and control work.
On February 7, Tencent increased the anti-epidemic fund to 1.5 billion yuan (US $216 million) for purchase of medical supplies, provision of technical support, care for role models and support scientific research and medical treatment.
A total of 300 million yuan (US $43 million) has been set aside to pay tribute to people involved in the anti-virus battle, including frontline medical staff, community workers, volunteers, social workers and workers at service centers for the elderly people.
